Tahiti 80 - Bang! EP

Download from eMusic for US$ 4.95.

On Bang, Tahiti 80's new EP, the Parisian indie-pop mainstays venture into new territory. The dynamic title track "Bang" is classic Tahiti, with its sweeping chorus, baroque synths and the signature voice of Xavier Boyer. "Piano Theme Park" takes a funky scenic route, with a loping bass, delicate keys and slow groove reminiscent of a dub lounge party. "Call Up" finds the band combining epic dynamics with darker lyrics, dirty guitars, and a bit of late-period New Order gravitas. But in keeping with tradition, the band never forgets to have fun, experimenting with Caribean rhythms a la 10cc ("Middle of Nowhere") and revisiting Italo and late '80s acid house on "Whatever."

Tahiti 80 has been around in various incarnations since the early '90s. They've played with Oasis back in the day, and toured with Of Montreal. With Bang, the band has created a snapshot of where they are today; creatively and personally. "Divorce and separation is definitely a major theme, and that's what I'm experiencing  right now," explains Xavier. "I guess Bang is a way of seeing this situation through a positive angle. Musically it's pretty eclectic and that's what EP's are for. It's ok to surprise the listener, whereas for an album people seem to expect something more concise."

A.S. - Exile

Download full album from eMusic for US$ 9.99 OR US$ 0.99 per track.

Formed in 2008, the Paris-based duo A.S. consists of vocalist Nick McRoberts (vox, piano) and Idriss Halfaoui (guitars). Having toured extensively in their native France  and the UK since their inception, they will be undertaking a tour of the US this summer.

Their sophomore album Exile was recorded over four months starting in the summer  of 2011 at RedBox Studios in Paris, and mixed by multi-Grammy award-winning Darrell Thorp at Studio 101 in Los Angeles. A fitting sequel to their Intimate Circles, the band's first opus, this album boasts stronger rhythms and darker, more melancholy themes, as well as greater daring and originality in the complex, eclectic arrangements. For Exile, they are joined by Raphaël Mercier (drums) of Mass Hysteria and the haunting vocals of Juwenn of Relay (additional vocals on Exile).

Exile's album artwork was born of the collaboration with French photographer P. Gaston and was shot entirely on location in West Scotland. The album was mastered at legendary Metropolis Studios in London by John Davis (U2, Snow Patrol, Velvet Underground).
