BIOGRAPHY

Texas-bred Mission Dorado, led by laid-back, dusty-voiced frontman Trey Brown, create warm, textured soundscapes perfect for happy hour in the dustbowl, or the approach of a showdown at high noon. Slide guitars, heavy grooves, and a dark, psychedelic undercurrent provoke unique twists on the standard folk song, bringing Brown’s haunting narratives about exile, self discovery, and redemption to life.

Brown's compositions have been featured on television as well as film, including the Showtime original series, Homeland (4/2012), and the N.Y. Times Critic Pick documentary, Echotone, a film about Austin music culture. The band’s current incarnation is rounded out by talented Texas talent, including lead guitarist Simon Page - (Sun Marquee), drummer Matt Shepherd (Dana Falconberry, Feverbones), and bassist Christopher Cox (Dana Falconberry, Feverbones) (all current).

Brown assembled the initial lineup to produce the first full-length LP, Trey Brown & Mission Dorado, recording and mixing and mastering start-to-finish to analog tape. The record helped to shade in the band's developing style, highlighting Brown's adept lyricism and lush, thoughtful arrangements with guitar-scapes. Mission Dorado takes a different turn with their newest release, Yannash Nahollo (Comanche for White Buffalo). Here, while recalling some of the strengths of previous work, Mission Dorado explores new musical territory with renewed confidence and perspective, recalling such diverse influences as Dungen, Here We Go Magic, and Shuggie Otis. Trippy, moody, pensive, ecstatic, hypnotic - this collection of Mission Dorado songs proves to be entrancing, indelible, and will surely leave you wanting more.

PRESS QUOTES

"With a voice like Bill Callahan and a knack for crafting Southwestern soul vast enough to stretch clear across the hill country, Trey Brown is at the vanguard of the next generation of Austin singer songwriters. Supported by ominous slide guitar licks from Simon Page and the rest of Mission Dorado, Brown settled into a showcase that pulled mightily from this April's self-titled second album. These are dreamscapes of sound from a young desert wanderer." - Austin Music Weekly

"Mission Dorado drone out country pop with a sonorous psychedelic ambiance." - The Austin Cut

“[Brown] awakens a range that most artists cannot aspire.” - Austin Sound

Introducing Mission Dorado

Checklist: Slide guitar, heavy groove, psychedelic undercurrents, laid-back vocals, twisted folksongs and haunted narratives, trippy, hypnotic.

Thankfully, all the above are very much present and correct in the debut album of warm, dusty Americana from Mission Dorado’s new album Yannash Nahollo (Comanche for White Buffalo), which sees a release on July 9th.
